Roof Cleaning Lewes — Soft Wash Specialists
Softwash roof cleaning in Lewes and the villages under the South Downs. Period roofs here need a gentle method, because the materials are old, and a proper look first.
Why Lewes roofs need specialist cleaning
Lewes is the county town of East Sussex, with a historic core of flint-faced buildings and tile-hung fronts. Many roofs use clay plain tile or Horsham stone. Because these materials are old, we assess each roof before we quote.
The River Ouse runs through the town, and the Downs rise steeply above it. Streets such as Cliffe and Landport sit low or face north, so they stay in shade for much of the day. As a result, growth can be faster than average.
If your home has listed status, ask the council before any work. Wealden District Council says very minor like-for-like repairs to a listed building may not need consent. However, that applies only when they match in every respect, and cleaning is a different job, so check first and tell us when you ask for a quote.
Our Lewes roof cleaning service
We fix the price before we start, because you should know the cost up front. Each visit includes the steps below.
- Soft wash biocide treatment (no pressure washing)
- Manual moss scraping where required
- Gutter clearance of fallen moss debris
- 5-year regrowth protection guarantee on the treatment
- Free post-job inspection report with photos
- Optional roof coating and colour restoration
We work from our own roof ladders or telescopic softwash lances, so most Lewes properties do not need scaffolding. However, steep or tall roofs may call for a cherry picker, and we say so in the quote. Steep streets and tight lanes are common in Lewes, so we plan access carefully before the day.
Lewes pricing
Roof cleaning has no single price, because it depends on roof size, pitch, moss coverage and access. For example, a small bungalow with light algae costs less than a tall detached house with thick moss. The quickest way to an accurate number is a free, no-obligation quote for your own Lewes home.

Before you book, our blog covers whether roof moss harms your house and whether roof cleaning needs scaffolding. Both guides use plain language, so you can read them before you ask for a quote. If you still have questions, however, the quote form is the quickest way to ask.
If you live in Lewes, our article on lichen on roof tiles is also worth reading before you book.

Frequently asked questions
How much does roof cleaning cost in Lewes?
Soft wash roof cleaning in Lewes typically costs from £350 for a semi-detached and from £450 for a detached home. Bungalows start from £295. However, we quote flint, Horsham stone and listed properties individually.
Are you experienced with flint buildings and Horsham stone?
Lewes has many flint-faced homes and Horsham stone roofs. These need different biocide strengths and gentle handling. We check each roof first, since the right method depends on the material.
Do you provide method statements for listed buildings?
We can explain our method in writing for listed and conservation area homes. This helps when a council or landlord wants details before work starts. However, check with the council whether consent applies.
Do you cover Ringmer, Plumpton and the South Downs villages?
We cover Ringmer, Glynde, Kingston, Rodmell, Plumpton, Chailey, Barcombe, Newick, Isfield and Ditchling. Although the lanes can be narrow, we plan access with you. The quote form will confirm your address.
How does the River Ouse valley damp affect roof cleaning frequency?
Because the valley keeps the air humid, especially in low-lying streets such as Cliffe and Landport, roofs there may suit treatment every three to four years rather than five. Open, sunny roofs can usually wait longer.
