Roof Cleaning Canterbury — Soft Wash Specialists
Softwash roof cleaning in Canterbury and the CT1 to CT4 area. Many homes here are old, so we keep the method gentle, because the tile type decides the approach.
Why Canterbury roofs need specialist cleaning
Canterbury is a historic city, and its housing shows it. Streets around St Dunstan's and Wincheap hold many period homes, and the villages of Barham, Bridge and Chartham add more. Clay tile and natural slate are common, and both need care because they can be fragile.
The Great Stour valley keeps the air damp, while mature trees in the suburbs shade many slopes. Even modern concrete-tiled homes in Sturry and Blean can collect moss. For that reason a regular check of the roof pays off in this area.
If your home has listed status or sits in a conservation area, speak to the council before any work. We can explain our method in writing, which helps when the council wants details. However, we never use pressure washing on any surface.
Our Canterbury roof cleaning service
We fix the price before we start, because you should know the cost up front. Each visit includes the steps below.
- Soft wash biocide treatment (no pressure washing)
- Manual moss scraping where required
- Gutter clearance of fallen moss debris
- 5-year regrowth protection guarantee on the treatment
- Free post-job inspection report with photos
- Optional roof coating and colour restoration
We work from our own roof ladders or telescopic softwash lances, so most Canterbury properties do not need scaffolding. However, steep or tall roofs may call for a cherry picker, and we say so in the quote. Narrow historic streets in Canterbury can limit parking, so tell us about access when you ask for a quote.
Canterbury pricing
Roof cleaning has no single price, because it depends on roof size, pitch, moss coverage and access. For example, a small bungalow with light algae costs less than a tall detached house with thick moss. The quickest way to an accurate number is a free, no-obligation quote for your own Canterbury home.

Before you book, our blog covers DIY roof moss removal and whether softwashing is safe for roof tiles. Both guides use plain language, so you can read them before you ask for a quote. If you still have questions, however, the quote form is the quickest way to ask.
If you live in Canterbury, our article on lichen on roof tiles is also worth reading before you book.

Frequently asked questions
How much does roof cleaning cost in Canterbury?
Soft wash roof cleaning in Canterbury typically costs from £325 for a semi-detached and from £425 for a detached home. Bungalows start from £275. We quote listed and heritage properties individually, because the tile type and access need checking first.
Are you experienced with listed buildings and heritage properties?
Canterbury has many listed buildings, and we adjust our method for them. We use gentler biocide strengths on natural slate and clay plain tile. However, you should confirm with your council whether any consent applies before work starts.
Do you cover the villages around Canterbury?
We work across Sturry, Chartham, Bridge, Harbledown, Blean, Whitstable, Herne Bay, Fordwich, Littlebourne and the wider CT postcode area. Although each place has its own roof styles, the approach is the same. Use the quote form to confirm your address.
Is softwash safe on natural slate?
It can be, but slate needs a gentler biocide mix than concrete tile. We inspect the slate type and condition before we quote, since older slate can be brittle. We then adjust the method to suit.
Do you provide method statements for listed buildings?
We can explain our method in writing for listed buildings and conservation area homes. This is useful because a council or landlord may want details before work begins. Mention it in your quote request so we can prepare it.
