Roof Cleaning Chatham & the Medway Towns
Softwash roof cleaning across the Medway towns, from £295. We cover Chatham, Rochester, Gillingham, Strood and Rainham, while estuary damp keeps moss common.
Why Chatham roofs need specialist cleaning
The Medway towns form one of the largest built-up areas in Kent. Inter-war and post-war semis and terraces fill much of Luton, Walderslade and Rainham, while Rochester has older riverside streets. Flat ground and the nearby estuary keep the air damp for much of the year.
Chatham's dockyard history left a core of early Victorian and Edwardian terraces. Many have natural slate or clay plain tile. Because these roofs are older, we use a lower biocide strength than we would on modern concrete.
Heavy moss on a roof sometimes needs scraping before treatment. We remove the bulk by hand where it is safe, then apply the biocide to kill what remains. As a result, the tile surface is clean and the gutters stay clear.
Our Chatham roof cleaning service
We fix the price before we start, because you should know the cost up front. Each visit includes the steps below.
- Soft wash biocide treatment (no pressure washing)
- Manual moss scraping where required
- Gutter clearance of fallen moss debris
- 5-year regrowth protection guarantee on the treatment
- Free post-job inspection report with photos
- Optional roof coating and colour restoration
We work from our own roof ladders or telescopic softwash lances, so most Chatham properties do not need scaffolding. However, steep or tall roofs may call for a cherry picker, and we say so in the quote. Most Medway houses are easy to reach from the ground, though we plan extra safety steps for steep terraces.
Chatham pricing
Roof cleaning has no single price, because it depends on roof size, pitch, moss coverage and access. For example, a small bungalow with light algae costs less than a tall detached house with thick moss. The quickest way to an accurate number is a free, no-obligation quote for your own Chatham home.

Frequently asked questions
How much does roof cleaning cost in Chatham and the Medway towns?
Soft wash roof cleaning across the Medway towns typically costs from £295 for a semi-detached and from £395 for a detached home. Bungalows start from £250. However, we confirm a fixed price only once we have your details.
Do you cover all the Medway towns?
We cover Chatham, Rochester, Gillingham, Strood, Rainham, Walderslade, Luton, Lordswood and Hempstead, and the nearby ME postcodes. Although the towns run together, we check each address before we book. The quote form is the quickest way to confirm.
Is softwash effective on heavily moss-covered roofs?
Even heavy moss responds well. We may combine hand scraping with the biocide where growth is deep. The scraping removes the bulk, while the biocide kills the spores that remain.
Are you experienced with Medway's inter-war housing stock?
Inter-war semis and terraces are common here, with both concrete and clay tile. Because the tile type decides the method, we check it before we quote. Send photos through the quote form if you can.
How long does treatment last in the Medway estuary climate?
Treatment typically lasts four to five years. However, the estuary keeps the air humid, so shaded roofs may see growth return sooner. Ask us about a top-up treatment if your roof is heavily shaded.
