Roof Cleaning Guildford — Soft Wash Specialists
Softwash roof cleaning across Guildford and the Surrey Hills villages around it. Larger detached homes, period houses and slate roofs all get a method that suits them, because one approach does not fit every tile.
Why Guildford roofs need specialist cleaning
Guildford sits beside the Surrey Hills. Surrey Hills National Landscape says it was among the first landscapes in the country to gain Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty status, in 1958. Wooded valleys and tree-lined roads keep many roofs shaded and damp. As a result, moss, algae and lichen grow well across the borough.
The housing stock varies a lot. Victorian terraces with slate roofs line Charlotteville and Mount Pleasant, while large detached homes stand towards Pewley Hill and Onslow Village. Post-war estates in Park Barn and Westborough add yet another type of roof.
Each roof needs a slightly different approach. Slate takes a gentler biocide mix, and period properties may need extra care. Heavy moss on shaded north slopes sometimes needs scraping before treatment, because it can be thick.
Our Guildford roof cleaning service
We fix the price before we start, because you should know the cost up front. Each visit includes the steps below.
- Soft wash biocide treatment (no pressure washing)
- Manual moss scraping where required
- Gutter clearance of fallen moss debris
- 5-year regrowth protection guarantee on the treatment
- Free post-job inspection report with photos
- Optional roof coating and colour restoration
We work from our own roof ladders or telescopic softwash lances, so most Guildford properties do not need scaffolding. However, steep or tall roofs may call for a cherry picker, and we say so in the quote. Big detached houses in Guildford often have several roof levels, so we survey the layout before we agree a price.
Typical Guildford prices
| Property type | From |
|---|---|
| Semi-detached | £395 |
| Detached | £495 |
| Large period property | £700+ |
| Listed building | POA |
These are starting prices, because roof size, pitch and moss cover all change the final figure. For example, a tall house with thick moss costs more than a small one with light algae. A free, no-obligation quote gives you the exact number for your own Guildford home.

Frequently asked questions
How much does roof cleaning cost in Guildford?
Soft wash roof cleaning in Guildford typically costs from £395 for a semi-detached and from £495 for a detached property. However, Guildford has many larger detached homes, and quotes for substantial period properties run £600–£1,200. However, we fix the price before work starts.
Do you cover the villages around Guildford?
We work across Shalford, Shere, Albury, Compton, Worplesdon, Pirbright, Burpham, Merrow, Effingham and West Horsley. Although some lanes are narrow, we plan access with you. The quote form will confirm your address.
Is softwash safe on slate?
Slate is common in the Victorian parts of Charlotteville and Mount Pleasant, and it needs a gentler biocide strength. We inspect the slate first because older pieces can be brittle. We then adjust the dilution to suit the roof.
Do you do listed buildings?
Guildford has listed properties around the cathedral, Quarry Street and the Surrey Hills villages. We can explain our method in writing for these homes. However, check with your council whether any consent applies before work starts.
How does this compare to other Guildford roof cleaners?
Ask every firm the same questions. Do they use a biocide softwash rather than a pressure jet, do they carry insurance for working at height, and do they offer a written guarantee? Compare the answers before you choose, since methods differ widely.
